THERE WAS A ROSE…KISSED BY THE SUN… NURISHED BY THE RAIN… AND IT GREW AND IT GREW!
Rose Care Workshop in the rose garden at Smyrna Park on Wednesday, November 11, included a hands-on special presentation by Ceres resident Daniel Bote, a Certified Arborist of Central Valley Trees and Landscape Services, Inc ; AND Ryan Thornberry of BTY Landscape Materials, also a Ceres business. As an added feature, Ceres Garden Club member, Ted Hawkins donated his skills to sharpen hand pruners.
Interested Ceres residents and Garden Club members gathered to listen, watch and learn about proper pruning, mulching and care of roses. As recommended by BTY Landscape Materials the best thing to do for roses during draught is to mulch using any number of products they have available, with cedar shavings being the most recommended.
Following the workshop, Ceres Garden Club members removed weeds and debris to beautify the garden. Fresh wood chips, supplied by the City of Ceres Public Works Dept, were spread in border areas. With the sun shinning and many of the roses still in bloom, it was a perfect day in a perfect setting on Veterans Day to honor those who have served, by serving our community to keep Smyrna Park Rose Garden a lovely place.
