Celebrating 20 Years

Cake for 20th Year Celebration 1996 – 2016. This very special cake was created by Mitzi of San Francisco. The bottom layer is decorated with colored ribbons of fondant, and the top layer showcases the signature flower,the Sunflower, helianthus. The ’20’ top ornament was hand crafted of fondant.

20 Years of Community Service!

On Thursday, June 16, the Ceres Garden Club celebrated its 20th year since federated into the Council of National Garden Clubs.  Charter members were invited to attend along will all past Presidents, officers, current and past members.

Special recognition was made to Charter member Colleen Bergamaschi who has served the Ceres Garden Club with passion and commitment as President, Vice President, Secretary and/or Treasurer over the entire 20 years.  Senator Anthony Cannella produced a signed Resolution of Achievement, which was presented by his representative, Helen Condit. Other past officers in attendance included Past President Jim Bergamaschi, and Past President Kathy Grieve.

Year Books, Newsletters and memorabilia scrapbooks were on display for nostalgia. Viewers were in amazement as to the many programs and projects undertaken and accomplished over the past 20 years to enhance the community.  Past Projects included:

1998-1999      Petals Grant Beautification Project, Highway Clean-up Whitmore off ramp;     Landscape Daniel Whitmore Historical House (roses); Landscape Main Entrance Ceres Memorial Park; Penny Pines Reforestation; Eagle Stamp Recycle Project; Christmas Tree in Gazebo of Whitmore Park.  [13 members]

2000-2001     Landscape Beautification Highway 99 and Whitmore Ave Off-Ramp; Masonic Lodge Beautification; Ceres Memorial Park Entry Beautification; Daniel Whitmore Historical House Garden Beautification; Penny Pines Reforestation; Sober Grad Night Garden Tour; Stamp Collection to save Endangered Species. [25 members]

2002-2003      Donated ‘Welcome to Ceres’ sign at Hwy 99 and Mitchell Road; Established First Junior Youth Garden; continue all of the above.  [46 members]

2003-2004     Planters for Downtown Beautification; continue all of the above. [44 members]

2004-2005     Established, via grants & donations, water-source for beautification at ‘Welcome to Ceres’ sign areas; continue all of the above.  [37 members]

2005-2006     continue all of the above.  [39 members]

2006-2007     Let Freedom Ring project begun.  Whitmore Mansion restoration of Victorian gardens; continue all of the above. [29 members]

2008-2009     Mad Hatter Tea & Tour of Historical Whitmore Mansion; Beautification landscape around sign Whitmore Park; continue all of the above.  [27 members]

2009-2010     Indoor Plants at Ceres Community Center; continue all of the above.  [31 members]

2010-2011     Blue Star Memorial Marker installed Ceres Community Center; continue all of the above. [32 members]

2011-2012     Beautification of the Doyle Cummings Rose Garden, est 1972; continue all of the above. [32 members]

2012-2013     Dedicated ‘Let Freedom Ring’ Pathway of Presidents trees and plaque; Bell Tower; continue all of the above.  [32 members]

2013-2014     Stanislaus County Fair Horticulture beautification, continue all of the above.  [29 members]

2014-2015     Ceres Street Faire plant sale; continue all of the above.  [35 members]

2015-2016     Water Wise Workshop I & II; continue all of the above.  [35 members]
