The Valley Lode District encompasses 7 counties (Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mono, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, and Tuolumne), and boasts 19 Garden Clubs with a membership of over 1,500 members. Being part of the California Garden Clubs, Inc. network, the Valley Lode District meets 3 times per year for member garden clubs to share achievements and to foster friendship.
The Ceres Garden Club was host to 107 District members representing garden clubs through out the Valley Lode District. Registration began at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 9:30 a.m. District Director, Judy Scheppman, conducted the business meeting with a special guest appearance from California Garden Clubs, Inc. President Elect, Krystal Migliore. Significant business included the unanimous vote to offer to host the 2018 state Convention of the California Garden Clubs, Inc.
A light, fun activity was the PASSPORT of friendship, where each registered guest was given a PASSPORT to record the name and garden club of each person they met for the first time; and to record good ideas heard during the meeting. Each 3 entries in the PASSPORT was stamped and a ticket given for the Door Prize drawing.
Emphasizing October as the month for Breast Cancer Awareness, pink ribbons were seen everywhere on name tags, raffle prizes and rubber boot centerpieces.
